Care Leaver Survey
Catch 22 Wandsworth ILS

Background

We were approached by Catch 22 to help them gather the views of care leavers aged between 18-21 to hear about their experiences of leaving care and using the Wandsworth Independent Living Scheme (WILS) service.

We recommended the use of a survey to gather both qualitative and quantitative data.

The survey was targeted at all care leavers through the use self-completion questionnaires (available as postal, email, web-based) and telephone interviews / telephone follow up calls. To increase the response rate, a prize incentive of £50 was offered to encourage a higher rate of return.

A postal survey was sent out to 147 young people who used the WILS. The survey was also made available online and follow up telephone calls were made to young people where mobile phone numbers were available. 43 young people responded. We carried out the analysis of the survey responses and provided a written report to the WILS managers with our recommendations.
